Palio della Balestra Antica

This contest of arms dating back to the XII century is still celebrated on 3rd September. The blasts of bugles and fluttering of flags in the evocative square Piazza Grande, beautiful with its palaces of the XIV century and crowded of people which clap the hands to every shot of crossbow.

It is a Traditional competition with the ancient crossbow from emplacement where the crossbowmen of Gubbio and S. Sepolcro defy every year in Large Public Square.

The competition consists in centering the target place to 36 meters of distance.

The crossbowman who succeeds to hit more neighbors to the center receives like prize pregevole called banner racing silk.

The beginning of the festivity is marked by four gunshots and the parade of Armed Forces (noble guard and, miliazia guard rocca) assemble in the public square of the freedom for the ceremony of the alzabandiera and carry out the religious rituals. In the afternoon the crossbowmen parade in order to catch up the quarry, the place of the concurrent every contest to turn pulls one single arrow aiming at the corniolo, that is the zonato target: the Victoria of the racing silk is up to the crossbowman who has approached itself the center. The festivity concludes the late evening with a great pyrotechny show.

The Etno Festival

For more than seven years San Marino Etnofestival has aimed at offering a deeper knowledge of the “music in the world”. The knowledge of other cultures through the emotions and sensations of songs, dance, and rhythms of the many musicians, some of international notoriety and other signs of different regional cultures, is a musical path with a strong cultural connotation.

It is an excursion around our planet to the discovery of the multiple expressions in music handed on from the man in the course of the centuries.
