What
if the jog park where you do the jogging turns one day a mini natural
resource with animals moving amidst the woods that you have never
seen before. Certainly marvelous and amazing for anyone and perhaps
that would change the life altogether bringing new dimension to
it and rejuvenating the life as new. Situated in the middle of a
highly urbanized area the Parco Regionale de Migliarino, San Rossore,
Massaciuccoli gives a similar feeling of its existence. With an
area of approximately 24000 hectares the park was established in
the year 1979. After many ups and down of political and social origin
the park after establishment attained the stability its long waited
for. The territory of park has its stretch along the provinces of
Pisa, Lucca including the municipalities of Pisa, Viareggio, San
Giuliano Terme, Vecchiano and Massarosa. The evidence of past water
land, marshes and pond is present in the existing geomorphologic
structure of the park. With its previous lagoons and marshes gradually
covered by detritus carried by river Arno and Serchio the landscape
prominently shows vegetation supporting it. The border in the west
is delimited by Tyrrhenian Sea and the north by Massaciucoli Lake.
The inhabitants of park are of equal admiration as the park itself.
The forest resource is admirable with trees like marine pine, marking
the coast of the park while the domestic pine colonizing the estate
of the park. These trees have a strong economic as well as medicinal
value apart from the landscape beauty that it adds on. The park
also nest species like Erica, lillatro, mirto, lentisco, and wild
asparagus, which are of great significance in the botanical terms.
Apart from these others to mention are the white poplar, the elm
tree, the majestic farina, the hawthorn, the prugnolo and the frassino,
which adds the various shades of beauty to the park.
Taking about the animal kingdom is like opening an encyclopedia
of Mother Nature. Of all the other creatures present to be seen
and adored by the visitor the park particularly is a gala feast
for the bird watcher with its immense collection of both migratory
and stationed birds. Apart from the better seasons of autumn and
spring to go for bird watching winter is also the season to be relished.
Few members to name would be the Fischioni, codoni, avocetta, the
cane birds, mirliarini, the snipes, the woodcocks, stick red, stick
green, civetta, and allocco. The others not mentioned here are also
of great ecological significance. The mammal’s class however
also shows great diversity starting from fallow deer to wild boar
to wild rabbits to ghiro to red vixen. The count never stops in
case of amphibians also variety of clams, bivalve mollusks and gastropods.
The underwater miracles also have a vast collection of there own
in the park with fishes ranging from luccio, tinca, eel, muggine,
to the red gambero killer. Nevertheless to mention that such dense
forest with the combination of wide grazing land is the perfect
habitat for coleopters, butterflies and spiders.
Although the park management is well equipped to provide guidance
and necessary amenities to venture the park but still it would not
be a waste of time to know certain locations in park which can be
called nothing other than the visitor’s paradise. Massaciuccoli
Lake would be no bad choice to start with. The lake having a maximum
depth of 2 meters is a creation of deltaic lagoon of the river Serchio
and amazingly has a huge bank of rich and varied flora and fauna.
Next to discuss would no doubt be the 4800 hectares area covered
San Rossore Estate well known to the nature lovers for fortified
environment and beautiful landscape. The typicality of the estate
can be well understood by the strange limitation of the estate in
four directions by water bodies. The north is delimited by the river
Serchio while the east, south and west by Fossa Cuccia, river Arno
and Tyrrheanian Sea respectively. The effect can be seen in well-established
form by the presence of vegetation like sea bindweed and sea urchins
in the coastal strip of the park. Last but not least to mention
are the lames, which are more of symbolic representation of the
park. Mostly found in the southern part of the estate these marshes
forms covers approximately 400 hectares. This off course is the
house of hundreds of birds and therefore is also frequented by the
bird watchers. The lames and dunes certainly have ecological significance
but more than that it signifies the importance of tourism in the
park and therefore a blessing for the tourists.
The rest of the story is not to be told but only to be felt being
in the scenario and then experiencing the eternity all by one self.
The life can be seen in its true form only in its exhibition of
creation collected in the small world of the park of Parco Rgionale
de Migliarino, San Rossore, Massaciuccoli. |
