Italy is a veritable treasure trove of art and culture, and the country has been described as one vast museum.

According to a UNESCO study, the country houses as much as 40 percent of the art of the world.

Tourists are overwhelmed by the plethora of museums of different hues which dot the cities and towns – there were a whopping 3,554 museums in the country at the last count, together displaying a mind-boggling 54,381,926 objects.

No wonder then that visitors come away dazzled by the richness of the culture, history and the sheer creativity of the mind of man that is on display here.
