Lower Town

The only sight of interest in the lower town is the Parco Archeologico Contrada Diana, west of the main street, Corso Vittorio Emanuele. Go here to see the remains of Greek walls dating from the 5th and 4th centuries B.C., and the ruins of several Roman villas. Ancient tombstones reveal an eerie necropolis from classical days. The burial grounds are visible off Via Marconi. The park is usually locked, so you can only stroll by and look in. All major finds discovered here were taken to the archaeological museum in the Upper Town.

Nightlife

The bars at Marina Corta are very popular with travelers and this is the most happening part of town. Turmalin is a summer dance club off Piazza Municipio near the castle. It is open every night from, May through August from 11pm to 6am. An admission of 10€ is charged and youngsters between 18 and 35 can be seen partying here. Rusticheria Vecchia Lipari, Corso Vittorio Emanuele 46, in the center of town is another very popular bar.

Chiarra Bar, on 5 Salita San Giuseppe, features Live Italian music, sometimes pop, and recorded music. It draws both a young and a middle aged crowd. In summer it's open daily from 7pm to 4am. It shuts down completely in January and February.

If you are a serious drinker, head to Bar Caffè La Vela on 2 Piazza San Onofrio. Its open 24 hours a days, 7 days a week or from 7am to midnight in the off season.
