The Rossini Opera Festival is a classic example of a celebration of music dedicated to Gioachino Antonio Rossini, the inspiration behind a musical heritage. Rossini was a musical composer who composed more than 30 operas, sacred music and chamber music. Held in Pesaro, Italy the birthplace of Rossini, the Rossini Opera Festival since 1980, has been the only singular international operatic event promoting known and unknown operatic repertoires contributed by Rossini.

 

The Birth of a Prodigy
With humble yet musical beginnings, Rossini was born in Pesaro, on the Adriatic coast of Italy on February 29, 1792. Rossini's father, Guiseppe was a town trumpeter and inspector of slaughter houses and his mother, Anna a singer, was a baker's daughter. Rossini's musical career started early at the age of six, when he played the triangle in his father's band.>>>>>More
 
A life time of dedication
After winning the prize at the age of eighteen at the Conservatorio of Bologna for his cantata, 'Il piantô d'armonia per la morte d'Orfeo', Rossini's first opera, 'La Cambiale di Matrimonio' was produced under the auspices of the Marquis Cavalli at Venice. But out of his numerous compositions composed in Rome, Venice and Milan from 1810 to 1813, 'Tancredi', was the most successful. Melodies such as, 'Mi rivedrai, ti rivèdrô' and 'Di tanti palpiti', rendered by Rossini were so popular that the Italians would even sing it in crowds at the law courts till the judge called order to the court! >>>>>More
 
Composing an Eternal Heritage
Applauded for his talent and quick ability to compose, Rossini's appearance was pleasing and elegant. His face revealed sophistication with a penetrating glance that was both dynamic and arresting. His nose was straight in his oval face with a smile that was both caustic and congenial. A virile attraction exuded from his personality that was fascinating and magnetic. Several anecdotes surround the musical reputation of Rossini. Well-known for his fast compositions, Rossini was supposed to have composed, 'Barbiere', in a very short time as he was late in delivering his masterpiece.>>>>>More
 
Scoring a legacy of accolades
Gioachino Antonio Rossini was a foreign associate of the Institute besides holding the post of Grand Officer of the region of Honour with many other prestigious accolades attached to his name. When the renowned composer Richard Wagner visited him in 1860, Wagner recorded their dynamic conversation in his essay, 'Eine Erinnerung an Rossini', ('A Memory of Rossini'). The 1950s saw a revival of his operas at festivals and received wide acclaim.>>>>>More
